death penalty vedict...
If we cheered over the Scott Peterson death penalty today, we're really not 'pro-life.' We may be anti-something, but that doesn't mean that we defend life in all cases. We still like to take justice into our own hands... I am saddened that we cheer or believe real justice takes place when we kill people. Perhaps it is our best form of justice in this world... perhaps. But regardless, it isn't the way God intended...

i have been opposed to the death penalty for quite a while, but my 'reason' for my being against the death penalty was changed... or rather was modified after participating in a protest of an execution.
there were two areas designated-- one "for" one "against." the "for" side was like a party... a gathering of people having a good time. and it appeared that most of the people in that area had left before it was officially announced that the execution had been done.
i came away from this experience with the belief that: when society kills in the name of society, it does something (in a negative way) to us (as the society) that we do not fully understand.
Your last two posts bring up the age old issue of grace vs. justice.
I know that I personally struggle with this issue.
More and more I'm being convicted that we (disciples) are to be consumed with being the dispensers of grace - period.
Mark 4 contains the parable of the sower. In it, the sower spreads the seeds anywhere and everywhere - seemingly without any regard to where they may land and without a concern over how much seed is thrown (I suppose we could have a lengthy discussion over how to use our limited resources in a stewardly fashion). The weeds are there and the birds come by and the sower does not intervene. The sower doesn't pull the weeds or shoot the birds he just sows.
John 3:17 says that even Jesus didn't come to condemn (pull weeds) but to save the world through himself.
Did I mention that I really struggle with this issue?
I deeply appreciate the comments. You blessed me with the presence of the Spirit of God.
Thank You.
