I was surfing some blogs and noticed several people quoting Thomas Merton. If you haven't read any of his stuff, you really should go to a good bookstore and buy one of his little books like "Thoughts in Solitude," "Life and Holiness," or "No Man Is an Island".

But let me also mention Henri Nouwen. He is another of my favorite authors who really helped my inner life. Read his "Way of the Heart," "Life of the Beloved," or "Here and Now." They'll mess you up in a good way.
